Richard, who is my friend for almost 10 years now, is leaving to study abroad. His family is moving to another country and so he needs to go with them. Only his sister is allowed to stay here because of her own family.

Richard is my best friend since junior high school. He is like my father, my brother and my lover to me. He is almost everything to me. I share all my secrets and problem to him and he helps me every time I need him. We are always together and school and people even think that we have a relationship more than friends, but we are really just friends. In fact I helped him court a girl in school before.

Now that he will be leaving soon, I will surely miss him. Yesterday he asked me to see him at a coffee shop nearby. I know by that time that he will bid goodbye already so I prepared myself. Though I know that I have prepared myself emotionally, I still can’t help but cry. Tears fell when he said that he will leave the next day. I can’t believe it’s a sudden decision that his parents made. We didn’t even have time to spend together. We just had coffee and remembered our memories together. Before we part ways, he gave me a promise ring, while saying that he will always be there for me and he will be back soon. I was touched by what he said and the gift of jewelry. I know that he will keep his promise, that we will remain best friends forever. I hugged him tight and I told him that I will wait for him. We know that we will see each other again someday.

I hope he and his parents will have a safe trip. I wish him luck with his studies.
