Written by Chan Jingxin
If you have been watching "The Beginning", which is currently airing on Channel 8, the name Rynn Lin Yu Zhong would probably ring a bell.

A Malaysian singer-composer who bagged four "Best Newcomer Award" at various music awards ceremonies, Rynn presents his new album "Rynn's in The Rain", following his debut release in December 2005.

The album's music style is a continuation of his debut album, where most of the songs are love ballads. However, it is also one that shows more of his personality and allows listeners to know more about him through his songs.

Rynn        Besides starring his virgin role in the Chinese drama "The Beginning", his two tracks - "Abandoned" and "Our Theme Song" - are also the theme songs for the drama.

What caught our eye though, was "In The Rain". No doubt a love song, Rynn also cleverly made a pun on his Chinese name, which has the exact pronunciation as the title "In The Rain".

Much attention has been placed upon "Melody" as well, because it was not only inspired by Rynn's personal experience in love, it was also the only piece he composed using the piano. It is dedicated to the passive parties of a relationship, who are commonly mistaken as not putting in enough effort and love to maintain the relationship.

Other tracks, e.g. "Reborn", a duet with Jin Sha, turned out pretty average overall. The use of the piano and the strings in this song was a wise choice though, as they complemented each other very well.

"The Owl", which combined oriental elements with R & B, could have been better too.

In the local version, the album comes along with two bonus tracks - "Melodi" and "Signal". "Melodi", which is another version of "Melody", is an interesting collaboration with Malaysian singer Sheila Majid and is sang in both Malay and Chinese.

"Signal", on the other hand, is one of the theme songs for Taiwanese idol drama "Goku Dou High School".

It is definite that Rynn has improved much since his debut release. However, with various awards bagged last year, one would naturally expect much more. hooked
