Models in Fashion, who should they be? The models donning fashionable clothes, sauntering on the runway, parading the latest fashion, or the designers who are always at the tip of the fashion trend, the model fashion directory that everyone follows?

I say it is both, or nothing.

Models in Fashion, the brainchild of Club NBTD (Nothing Better To Do) Pte Ltd, aims to fuse both elements into the event, showcasing not only their handpicked NBTD models, but also exclusive up-and-coming fashion labels, amidst a clubbing atmosphere.

This monthly event will be held at Velvet Dragon, the newly revamped Club MOMO, on Wednesdays, Ladies’ Night, until November 2007. In conjunction, Hooked will be coming up with a monthly couture feature in GlamourUs, based on each of the independent fashion labels highlighted during the event.

The launch of the event, Fierce@Velvet Dragon, was held on 13th June 2007, advocating two main concepts – Unique and Excitement – which are also the characteristics of Depression, the unconventional local label set to be under the spotlight that night.

Priding itself as ‘tees and accessories for the anti-social’, Depression is a 7-month old label started by ex-advertising creatives, Kenny and Andrew. The name reflects the owners’ sentiments, believing that the best designs arise from one's personal experiences, or at least that is what Depression strives for.

The tagline reflects the label’s target audience: those from the creative and artistic industries, as well as people who appreciate uniqueness and individuality. Not only do most of the items come in one unique piece, the label also customizes hand-painted tees. In short, the store hopes to be a space for like-minded people who like alternative, unconventional and non-commercial styles. Call them fashion ‘anti-socials', if you like.

In line with their label, the schizophrenic presentation of clothing during the fashion show highlighted the coexistence of two contradictory fashion genres – Geek Chic, as well as Bold and Daring.

The former displayed an array of alternative, eccentric T-shirt designs, while maintaining a depressive black-and-white colour scheme. The latter, however, used bolder colours like gold and silver, presenting a range of clothing more fitting for the club setting.

When asked what they had hoped to achieve within the half-an-hour fashion parade, Andrew expressed their desire not to promote their own products, but to encourage individuals to be bold and daring enough to dress their own style, even if it makes them seem anti-social.

With the rise of emo-gothic culture a la Paul Twohill of Singapore Idol fame, they don’t have to worry at all.

Housing tees, shoes and hand-made accessories, Depression boasts personalised designs that range from the quirky to the gory. A peek into the store would be like peeking into the guys’ personal lives and experiences.

The store also features some indie brands from Tokyo, Hong Kong and Korea (Scrapbook, Swordfish, Tokyo, Dizzy, Supermarket, Rastars, Nano, Decides, Crover among others).

Head down to Depression to pick up some new threads to add to your wardrobe now! Hooked
