"In The Rain" with Rynn PDF Print E-mail
Written by Chan Jingxin
It was a sunny Wednesday, probably something that Rynn Lin Yu Zhong had least expected on the day of a media press conference to promote his second album "Rynn's In The Rain". Hooked finds out why.

Since his debut album release last year, the rain followed wherever Rynn's promotional activities were held. Even in Beijing where it seldom rains, it rained for two consecutive days when he arrived. Cursed or coincidence, his Chinese name is read the same way as the phrase "in the rain".

When Danny Yeo, the host of the press conference, mentioned about flooding in some areas of Taiwan, Rynn jokingly replied that it was definitely not because of him.

Whether it is the name or the looks, Rynn is often mistaken as a broody person. However, he hoped that listeners will be able to know more about him through his new album, in which all the songs are composed and penned by himself. He expressed that over these years, he has experienced more things which boosted his creative juices.

Indeed, for the past year, Rynn not only acted as the male lead "Tie Tou" in Channel 8 drama "The Beginning", he was also chosen as the spokesperson for products such as Sony Cybershot T100, Darlie and a fantasy MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), Granado Espada. "Abandoned", "Reborn" and "Hide-and-Seek" are the songs, among others, which were picked as the respective theme songs for the above mentioned.

Talking about his role in "The Beginning", Rynn said that he had just completed the promotional activities of his debut album in Taiwan when he received a call from the producers, asking if he was interested to audition for the role of "Tie Tou". He eventually got the role, who is an optimistic, straightforward guy who loves gambling and loafing at the wet market. "Tie Tou" is also someone who places emphasis on brotherhood and friendship.

Rynn said that the acting experience affected him a lot because acting had never crossed his mind before. He was struggling with it initially as he didn't understand why he was acting when he is a singer. But he came to enjoy it and realised that some things which he might be unable to do in real life, he could do them through acting.

Because of this drama, he became good friends with Shaun Chen and Felicia Chin. The limelight, though, seemed to be on Felicia and him.

"Her personality is more like a guy," he said, which was contrary to what he had in mind before he met her. His colleagues told him about the actress' role as "Mei Ren Yu" in "Portrait Of Home," so he had imagined her to be very gentle with long lustrous hair.

When asked to choose among Felicia Chin, Sonia Sui (from "Melody" MV), Jin Sha and Stella Chung ("Ting Li" in "The Beginning") to represent the type of girl he likes, Rynn chose Sonia, saying that he likes girls who are cool, mature and has character.

Although he is currently single, the song "Melody" is about his previous relationship, which is the third so far. As Rynn put it, a couple is like music and lyrics; a relationship is like a melody. There are both happy and sad times, and sometimes they will complement each other.

"It is the imperfections, which makes love so perfect." Hooked
