Punk-style studded belts, black opaque tights, the basic white tee and cardigans were the defining looks of the FourSkin collection, whilst Skinny Munster sent their printed graphic tees with casual flair down the runway.
Skinny Munster opened online in Singapore just two years ago, making available to the public international brands such as Puma, Zoo York, TitaniumEFX and Threadless, as well as their own house brand Skinny Munster.
With a local customer base of about 65% (the other 35% is international); they have received positive responses from customers ranging from students to street-wear die-hard fans alike.
The runway show is a concerted effort to achieve offline branding, whilst raising awareness amongst fashion aficionados between the ages of 18-30, as well as to streamline their mix of international and house designs into a new Skinny Munster version 2.0.
Designer Nizar counts Jeremy Ville, Beautiful Decay and Tank Theory amongst some of his favourite brands for their great quality and design - drawing inspiration for his collection from them.
He says of the concept and inspiration behind the Skinny Munster house brand: The Skinny Munsters are creatures at war with their enemies, known as the Corporate Robots and the Religious Apes.
Definitely not for the faint hearted, Skinny Munster calls for the rebellion against a rigid society to be communicated through fashion - a must-do for all those who pride themselves on individuality.
T-shirt 'musical freedom' embodies its wearer to express the right to choose and enjoy music the way they like it.
FourSkin, on the other hand, took on a different direction with their collection of clothes.
Designer Jon Mah readily admits that designs are created only for pure aesthetic appeal - he used a mix of printed and plain fabrics that work together, creating a casual look that is appropriate for Singapore's climate.
The collection showcased strong, bold graphics and lines that were high on spunk and comfort. Really, isn't that what we really want out of our clothes?
His sources of inspiration stem from movies, music and books - basically everything in life. FourSkin opened in Singapore in 1998 with an aim to use T-shirts as graphic canvases of art. It currently boasts of two retail outlets in Singapore, and three in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
As local branding forays on into new and exciting territory, we can be proud of each baby step that brands like Four Skin and Skinny Munster take, a sampling of the potential Singapore has in representing streetwear fashion.
We have NBTD club to thank for their efforts in providing the platform for our local brands to realize their potential.
