Written by Teo Shu May and Tracy Wong
To most of us, a model's life is equivalent to tonnes of hairspray and copious amounts of eye shadow. We view modelling as nothing but getting the opportunity to strut and pose in fancy clothing, looking glamorous before the bright lights of fashion.

But is that all that goes on in a model's life? What about one with a dual identity of a part-time model and a full-time undergraduate? HOOKED lets you take a peek into a model's lifestyle by interviewing three university students who are currently juggling their academics with a modelling career.

1. Which clients have you modelled for?

I have worked for Fancl, Loreal, M1, magazines etc.

2. Has being a model changed you in any aspect of your life? Have you become more confident, and do people treat you differently?

Yes, certainly. But people still treat me the same.

3. Do you feel a pressure to keep up your appearances in school?

I don't really have the pressure to do so, but I do care about my appearances. I feel that it's only basic courtesy to look decent for the people around you.

4. What is the best part about being a model and why?

The best part is the pay you get, and of course, you get to look at pretty photos.

5. How about the worst part?

The waiting hours between each shoot can really bore me to tears.

6. So, who are your star icons?

        I like Angelina Jolie.

1. Which clients have you modelled for?

I have worked closely with Mediacorp (especially in the area of acting). I have also walked down some runways and done some TV commercials for corporations like DBS Bank.

2. Were you model-scouted? If not, how did you get the job?

I was scouted not as a model but for a school pageant. It was a surprise for me as I was not really prepared.

3. Why did you want to become a model then?

It has actually been one of my dreams to be a model as I have always admired how they can walk down the stage parading new clothes. So it was really a dream come true for me.

4. Is being a model pressurizing, in terms of work responsibilities?

I don't agree that being a model is pressurizing.

First of all, I enjoy modelling. You need to enjoy doing something so that you can fulfill the task well. So I see it as an enjoyment rather than a stressful responsibility.

Secondly, one can learn so much through this profession. For instance, I have to thank my trainer for teaching me the three important attributes in order to become a better person - X, Y and R factors. In short, one needs to have charisma, receptiveness to new things and good interpersonal skills.

. Has being a model changed you in any aspect of your life? Have you become more confident, and do people treat you differently?

Definitely. I must say I have grown from the first day that I joined modelling. Not only have I become more confident, I have also learnt to be more open-minded and hardworking.

Actually, I am not sure if people treat me differently but I definitely still cherish my friends the same or even more.

6. Do you intend to continue modelling after university? If yes, where do you intend to go on from here? If not, do you have other plans in mind?

If time permits me, I will definitely continue with my passion. But I am a man of dreams and I have several things that I want to achieve in life.

So far, I have already achieved some and my next few targets will be to own my own house and be successful in my career (as a real estate developer) before the age of 28.
