The Daughtry Experience: Blissfully Daughtrified! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Unmukt Goel

The excitement was palpable as Joey Barnes (drums), Josh Paul (bass guitar), Josh Steely (lead guitar), Brian Craddock (rhythm guitar) and Chris Daughtry (vocals, guitar) took their places on the stage.

As the guys got ready for the show, so did hooked.

        The wait had been long.

I kept fretting about having unknowingly missed the HarbourFront bus stop on my way to the Daughtry showcase. Naturally, my neurotic behavior extended to the numerous checks on my wallet to ensure that the concert passes hadn't developed a life of their own and walked away from my wallet. I probably reached a new peak in my display of obsessive compulsive behaviour, as I kept thinking of every possible thing that could go wrong and disrupt my desire to catch Chris Daughtry in action, while waiting in line to enter the arena.

By now, if it's not clearly discernable yet that I'm a big fan of Daughtry, let me reaffirm that.

Fortunately, all was expectedly well in the end as we made it in after getting our hands stamped and found ourselves a nice spot with an amazing view. While awaiting the American Idol alumnus to come on stage and kick off his band Daughtry's showcase, there was a sense of deja vu.

I was half-expecting to see Ryan Seacrest walking up on stage, initiating the show with his signature welcome, "This is American Idol!" and the three judges all ready to pounce on any perceived flaw of Daughtry's vocals. However, as soon as Daughtry came up on stage, every thought was expelled from my mind as the audience was whisked away on a magical musical journey in spite of ourselves.

Simply with their first song 'Crashed', Daughtry managed to cast a spell on us. The powerful vocals by Chris throughout the performance, together with the great support from the rest of the band members resulted in what was a truly mesmerising showcase.

Following 'Crashed' were their other hits like 'Home', 'It's Not Over', 'Over You' (one of my favourites), 'What I Want', 'Breakdown' and 'What About Now'. Every one was just as brilliant, and any Daughtry fan would testify to that.

By the end of the performance, the band was presented with a special memento by Sony BMG (the main organiser of the event) for the success of their self titled debut album.

Even though they only performed a few of their songs, with the show lasting for only an hour, it was not one to be missed.

The sheer energy of the band, the power of their music and the strength of their vocals resonated within the Powerhouse, creating an atmosphere that would have had any rock fan having the time of his or her life! HOOKED

For a visual feast, check out our recording of their performance for 'What About Now'. Be prepared, because in the words of Chris Daughtry himself, they are about to "get sappy on ya"!
