Cherie's Pan is designed as a bistro for casual dining among friends and especially families. As part of the D'escapade Inc. group, which runs the Cherie Hearts program, the place was created with the whole family in mind.

This restaurant engages the use of cozy furnishings in warm hues, coupled with dim, warm lightings, emanating warmth and a quaint charm. The use of coloured mahjong paper as tablecloths and colourful crayons readily available for scribbling and doodling adds a kind of je ne sais quoi, giving the restaurant its own unique character.

Cherie's Pan essentially serves western cuisine at affordable prices. Attempting to wow the unsuspecting and delight the faithful, its menu boasts a wide range of choices from thick, succulent pieces of prime quality steak, tender chicken meat and pan-fried dory fish.

While Cherie's Pan may not have the refined subtlety of leading western restaurants, it tries its hardest to satisfy the heartland palate - a winning attempt, if I should say so myself for this writer was blown away.

Start off your meal with the Soup of the Day (S$6) - if possible, request for the cream of mushroom. Simmered in thick creamy soup and served with a slice of crispy garlic bread, this starter alone will whet your appetite and promises a good meal to come.

Should you not be a fan of soups, give the escargot (S$10) a try. Cooked to perfection thus making the flavour evenly distributed, this generous serving (8 pieces) is sure to keep you asking for more.

If you like your fish, try out the pan-fried dory fish. Served over a portion of mash potato, this dish is rather amazing. The fish is evenly pan-fried such that the outer layer is crispy while the meat remains perfectly moist and juicy. However, for those non-fish/-seafood lovers out there (this writer included), the dish might be slightly overpowering.

This writer would then suggest giving the Sirloin Steak (S$18) a go. This must-have comes highly recommended. Cooked to medium-rare perfection, the juicy, succulent steak is complemented with great black pepper sauce, which enhances the natural flavour of the steak.

One should take note that usually, steak sauce would naturally cake up upon exposure to air; however, the sirloin steak sauce retained its smooth consistency for quite a while, making it more delectable.

Even if you have no time for a full sit-down meal, do give the desserts a try. The New York Cheesecake (S$6.50) is simply gorgeous. The consistency of the batter is just right that when you put a spoonful of the cake in your mouth, the cheese melts right away, creating a creamy soft textured mix.

One should never leave Cherie's Pan without trying out the Braised Pear (S$6). Soaked to perfection in red wine for two whole days, the pear is moist and rich in flavour - a sensational experience for the palate!

        HOOKED's recommendation:

  • 1) Rosemary Chicken (S$12)
  • 2) Pan Sealed Sirloin Steak (S$18)
  • 3) Braised Pear in Red Wine (S$6)

Overall, the service was excellent and this writer could not have asked for a better dinner experience. HOOKED

Writer's note: Biggest apologies for the lack of food pictures to furnish the review. The food was simply too orgasmic and its perfection cannot be captured on film (read: my camera died on me halfway and thus i couldn't upload any pictures! I apologize!).

Cherie's Pan is located at 21 Tan Quee Lan Street, Heritage Place.
