Mid-sems are finally over, Halloween is coming up and we have almost one month till we have to absolutely start hogging central library again. Need I say more? It's party time everyone!
Drink the night away
Put all the liquor you want on a table and allow the guests to make their own drinks as they please. If you are having an open bar party, you'd want to do the bar-tending yourself, so here are a few popular drinks, which will definitely keep your party rolling.
"One Vodka Martini shaken not stirred." Sounds familiar? Here's how to make it:
 3 oz gin
1 oz vodka
1/2 oz French wine
Pour the gin, vodka and French wine into a cocktail shaker, half-filled with cracked ice. Shake well, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon, and serve.
Here's something old-school, with a bit of a twist: Cranberry Jello shots.
6 oz light rum
6 oz berry blue jell-o
16 oz boiling water
10 oz cold water
Mix the jello with boiling water until powder is fully dissolved, then add the rest of the water and the alcohol. Pour the mixture into either shot glasses or paper cups, and chill as per usual. You can use different flavored jelly to get different flavored jello shots.
Next up, hold the floor for the Flaming Dr. Pepper. This is one drink that will definitely make all your guests crowd around the bar. It's quite an experience making and drinking it.
To make a Flaming Dr. Pepper, you're going to need a bottle of 151 proof rum, as well as a bottle of amaretto and plenty of light beer. The preparation of the drink can be easily ruined, so take heed for the following directions:
Take a shot glass and fill it ¾ full with amaretto. Top the shot with 151 - it should end up layered on top. Fill a pint glass halfway full with light beer.
Now comes the showmanship part - using a lighter, carefully light the top of the shot on fire. The 151 will burn off the top of the shot, and once it's lit, you need to drop it into the pint glass. The concoction will fizz up, and you need to down it as soon as you can.
By some act of God, the drink actually tastes amazingly like Dr. Pepper - shocking, considering that there isn't a single non-alcoholic ingredient in the mix!
Fuel for the Party Animal
Ever heard of a finger food with vodka in it? Here's how you make a Blue Cheese Vodka Balls:
1/2 cup blue cheese
1/2 cup fat-free cream cheese
1 tablespoon peppar vodka
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
1/2 cup sesame seeds, toasted
For people who don't know what blue cheese is - if you see your favourite diary selling cheese with blue-green mold in it, don't change your diary, it's just blue cheese (perfectly edible!).
1. Cream together the blue cheese, cream cheese, vodka and parsley until smooth.
2. Refrigerate for 35 minutes.
3. Shape into small balls and then roll into the sesame seeds.
4. Refrigerate until needed.
Need finger food while waiting for the party to heat up? Three words: Mini Prosciutto Sandwiches.
White Bread
Mustard
Prosciutto, thinly sliced
Monterey jack cheese, thinly sliced
Spread slices of bread with mustard, then layer with Prosciutto and jack cheese to make sandwiches. Cut the completed sandwiches into little triangles. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate.
You can also try various other types of sandwiches. Just remember to keep them mini, fuss-free and yummy-licious.
Here are a few things that will help you remain a tad sober after all those vodka shots:
Always eat something with a lot of oil in it. Salted cucumbers, marinated tomatoes and pickles help. Drink a glass of brine from the jar you kept pickles in to prevent a hangover. Keep hydrated, which means you'll need that bottle of Evian close by.
Last but not least, if you need to get pissed drunk - pass the keys to someone else to drive. HOOKED
