Back in Singapore
for a fourth time now, the Black Eyed Peas did more than just put on a show last
Monday - they practically threw a party.
HOOKED brings you through the strobe-lit, subwoofer-thumping night, and prove
that the Peas still know how to keep their audience on its feet.
Starting things
off was Boston pop band, The Click
Five, whose spirited tunes set the tone for the non-stop partying that
was in store for the rest of the night.
Now, this being
a pop/hip-hop themed gig, you'd be forgiven for thinking that teenagers would
be the only ones present. In truth, there were kids as young as 10, screaming
alongside 50-year-old couples, which was an... interesting sight, to say the least.
As the Peas took
centre stage, it was obvious that this was one of the much-anticipated concerts
of 2007. The crowd swayed and jumped and sang along as the fashionable four
beat-boxed and hip-hopped their way through their energetic set.
True to
Singaporean form, the entire stadium turned into one giant karaoke session during
popular hits like "Hey Mama", "My Humps", and "Don't Phunk With My Heart".
The "King of
Filipino", apl.de.ap showed his break dancing skills during the song "Bebot",
and even threw in a couple of flips and cartwheels for good measure, driving
the already-delirious audience simply wild.
Group leader will.i.am
cleared media rumors of the Peas going their separate ways when he announced,
"The Black Eyed Peas are NEVER gonna break up." So take THAT, all you
non-believers!
Fergie's vocals
were on top form that night as she effortlessly belted out the high notes in
"Don't Lie", and took control of the stadium by performing chart-topping
singles like "Fergalicious" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" from her solo album The Duchess.
Teasing the
crowd with a British-accented intro to "London
Bridge", Fergie's girly side emerged
with her dress and crown (which she threw to the audience later), and proved
that her entertainment skills were not contained to singing and dancing.
Halfway through
their set, will.i.am suddenly announced that they were leaving, and the Peas
exited the stage abruptly. This, of course, predictably sent their fans into a
near-apoplectic frenzy, if their half-crazed chanting was anything to go by.
Visibly
refreshed by the short break, the Peas bounded back onstage for a second round
of songs, dedicating their #1 hit "Where Is The Love?" to Singapore. Finally
closing the night with "Let's Get It Started" (odd choice for an ending song,
if you ask us), the Peas left the stage with a round of credits, and exuberant
promises to be back.
HOOKED's Black
Eyed Peas contest winner, Elaine Wong was absolutely delighted with the entire
show: "The Black Eyed Peas were awesome! I was overwhelmed by their songs and
couldn't stop jumping and dancing to their beats! It was one hell of an
experience! Loved it!" HOOKED
