HOOKED: You guys have a legion of loyal
fans, but tell us, what is your image of an ideal fan? Do you prefer aggressive
ones or those who are soft-spoken?
Shu Wei: We
like fans who understand us, but it's not like you have to do crazy things.
Sometimes, just one look in the eye, and we'll know they understand us. In
fact, many of our fans are like this now, because they've grown up after
following us for about 4, 5 years, and we're really happy to have fans like
that.
Kun Da: I'd
also like our fans to...whether it's the songs in our album, or our dance performance...
Shu Wei:
...understand them (the performance) better...
Kun Da:
...give us some feedback...it doesn't matter if it's criticisms, or if they like
it, they can just tell us, so we can better improve.
HOOKED: What is the most memorable thing
you've received from them then? You've just had an autograph session yesterday
(041107) right?
 Shu Wei: Yeah.
Kun Da: (Looks
at Ah Di and grins) Ah Di...
Ah Di:
(Laughs) The most memorable one probably happened a few days ago. Before we
came to Singapore, we were performing in China, Xiamen. One of the fans there
gave me a box of 'things', which I initially had no idea what (was inside). She
told me not to let anyone else see it, and I'd have to open it alone in my
room. So when I got back and looked at the box, I thought it was okay, since
there was just a photo we took together on top, but when I opened it, I realised
it was full of condoms!
(Everyone laughs)
Shu Wei: All
types of it...all kinds of flavour...
Ah Di: All
kinds of flavour? (Laughs and looks at Shu Wei) Well, there are all kinds of colours,
those for night use, and even glow-in-the-dark ones...all sorts of it. Just a lot
of it...and I was rather shocked.
HOOKED: So will you remember their
names?
Ah Di: Well,
there are those you see very often, like there are some fans in Singapore who
will fly to Taiwan, and there are a few we see regularly at our public events,
so we have a deeper impression.
Kun Da: Actually
a problem we always face is that we can remember the person and the name, but
we can't link them together.
HOOKED: What happens when they see you?
Shu Wei: They
will ask, "Do you remember me?" When I ask them when have we met, they will
tell me (we met) two years ago, and I'm like, "Two years ago?!"
Kun Da: I
realise in Singapore, many of our fans' names have the word 'Hui' in it.
Xiao Gang:
Yeah.
Shu Wei: And
the word 'Xia'.
Kun Da: 'Huiling', 'Huimin', 'Hui' something...
Shu Wei: 'Xia' too.
Xiao Gang:
Mostly 'Hui'.
Shu Wei: And
‘Rui' something too.
Kun Da: We
often get confused (laughs).

Afterword
 If you've read the interview transcript and
watched the clips carefully, you'd have noticed how they like to complete each
other's sentences and intermittently fool around with each other while the
others were answering the questions posed to them.
There is this strange
affinity you see amongst them, as if Xiao Gang had always been with them, and
things have never changed. Perhaps like what Shu Wei said, Xiao Gang's presence
has indeed lifted their spirits and made Energy whole again.
Through this interview, I see their
defiance in the face of adversity. They say it's all in the spirit, I say it's
all in their strong and sincere heart, to hold on to their belief in
themselves, and the promise to their fans.
