Not everyone was there for basketball...members of the Slingers Girls showing their stuff.

"Look at me! Whoopee!!"

The food, booze and titillating performances by the Slingers' cheering squad certainly livened up the atmosphere and set the party tone from the outset of the match.

Joshua Lim, an NUS business undergraduate and member of the varsity basketball team said that he went down to watch the match for a little "fun and relaxation" after his examinations.

"The atmosphere was surreal! I haven't experienced such a lively crowd and entertaining match in a long time! It was really good to see the local players get some playing time too. I think the crowd really appreciated that."

Michael Wong, in a post-match exclusive with HOOKED, said that the experience thus far has been "incredible."

"It has been tiring with the traveling in between games, and I do miss the food in Singapore, but learning from such a group of professionals has certainly taught me a lot."

It is understood that national players are recruited into the team, not only based on their skills, but also in part as an effort to raise the profile and awareness of basketball in Singapore.

Mr Ash Singh, the Slingers' co-owner pointed out that he saw "potential and interest in basketball in Singapore" and hoped that these efforts would increase the popularity of the game.

Judging by the number of youths in the crowd clamoring for autographs, it seems that the strategy is working in cultivating the interests of the younger Singaporean generation.

"Most importantly, we have to be consistent. Performances like these would only serve to attract greater crowds and popularity."

The spectators get in on some of the action

With the kind of entertainment and enjoyment I had experienced today, there is no doubt that the popularity of this sport is only set to grow. Lucky for us, NUS has been giving out a significant number of tickets for each home game that the Slingers play at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

An evening of free and heart-stopping entertainment, as well as adrenalin-pumping action that is bound to keep you on the edge of your seat. Newfound camaraderie with a stadium full of like-minded supporters and elation over an unequivocal victory. Seriously, what more could we ask for?

Don't take my word for it though, go down and get yourself high on the concoction of fast-paced and heart-stopping action by the Singapore Slingers! Christmas surely came early for the Slingers' supporters. hooked
