She Says:

So you've done the usual things like buying small gifts and flowers, but still feel unappreciated and unable to make a girl happy. Whether in or outside of a relationship, here are ten mini, bite sized, and manageable gestures that if done consistently, go a long way with the fairer sex:

jlvn220l        1. Gentlemanly ways. Holding a door open, walking her home if a date ends late, offering to carry heavy packages-the list is not exhaustive. Whether done for a stranger or for a long-time girlfriend, chances are that the both of you will feel good about it; she'll feel happy to be looked out for, you'll feel...like a gentleman.

        2. Intelligent conversation - no, it's not true that all our interests converge into one big tangled mess of shopping, gossip, and sales news. Discover this for yourself, whilst surprising us pleasantly with your wit and knowledge at the same time.

        3. Appreciate us, and let it be known. Not that we don't already feel great about our dressed up, well heeled Saturday night selves-but your verbal appreciation can make us feel even better. Brownie points if you take the effort to notice little details like a new haircut or perfume.

        4. Time. Just knowing that you've made time to call, visit, or meet up, is a nice gesture in itself. Giving someone your time is an indication of care, and everyone likes that. Besides, knowing how you've taken precious time off the world of Warcraft just for us makes us feel very special.

        5. Willingness to get along with our friends, and maybe even family. It's always nice to see people we like, meaning you the boyfriend and our other girlfriends, getting along well. If that isn't convincing enough, think about how our friends and family will be just about the most important allies you'll ever make in the lifetime of this relationship.

        6. Give us space. When we aren't being emotionally needy and demanding your time, we want alone time or time out with girlfriends, free from calls hankering after our location. Sounds familiar? Respect our space, and we'll respect yours.

        7. Affection. After all that space respecting, it's nice to come home to some good old cuddling, and be showered with gestures of affection. It makes us feel special. Even between friends, a hug or kind word can make our day.

        8. Here's a DON'T - don't be inconsiderate when talking about other girls. It's all fine to point out an attractive female at the opposite table, nothing wrong with sharing eye candy; it makes most of us uncomfortable when you start discussing the size of her breasts in detail and disrespectfully. Especially if the person you're talking to happens to be your girlfriend.

        9. Be honest; say what you mean, be yourself. We're good at detecting insincere compliments or unrealistic promises, and even if we're not it's bound to surface sooner or later. It makes us happy we can trust you to be real, and not have two different sides, one for the girls and one for the boys.

        10. Physical, verbal, any form of care. Whether maintaining a friendship, kick-starting a brand new relationship or chugging along with an age-old one, your care (and this should be natural, never forced, here's a warning: we have women's intuition) will probably, naturally translate into some of, if not all of the gestures above.

So if you care but have problems translating that to action, it's time to shrug off what you think is that manly façade, and try wearing your heart on your sleeve. hooked
