6) Japanese Ice-cream

This slot was originally meant for Wasabi ice cream. I didn't really understand why people would want the choking taste of the horseradish paste as an ice-cream flavour, when ice-creams are supposed to be sweet and cold.

I googled Wasabi ice-cream and guess what I found? Other odd combinations of ice cream far weirder than the Wasabi itself! How about:

Cactus Ice-cream?

cactus

Octopus Ice-cream?

octopus

Chicken Wing Ice-cream?

chickenwing

Or even Fish Ice-cream?

fishthis

Well, the Japanese have always been known to be innovative. And maybe with time, this could be the new wave of Ben & Jerry's. Weird, but it could happen. It could just happen...

7) Milo Powder Wrapped in Bread

Now that's a very efficient way to eat your breakfast!

I've heard of protein bars but I guess this combination is in a class of its own. According to the person who suggested this combination, it is "very nice, crunchy, sweet but not too sweet because the bread counters the sweetness of the Milo powder." And it's a great breakfast idea as it "gives you real real real energy". Yes, she did say ‘real' three times to prove her point.

A great idea when you're late for lecture.

8) Chilli sauce + Mayonnaise

I love to put condiments on my fries. But the thing is, I like to put them separately. So I'd dip my fry in chilli sauce, and then I'd put mayonnaise on it.

However, some people decide to skip the whole process and instead, mix the two condiments together. It's not bad, but the colour is quite unappealing.

On the other hand, if you're not as squeamish as I am, then perhaps this combination would not be half as bad as I make it out to be.

9) Cup Corn + Chilli sauce

I was wondering what other weird food items I could include in this article, while queuing for my prata sausage, but lo and behold, it was as if the Heavens were smiling down on me, when this guy in front of me ordered both a prata sausage and a cup corn. Nothing weird there, but while the lady was preparing the former, the guy asked if he could have chilli sauce. And to my amazement, he proceeded (with the lady's permission, of course) to smear chilli sauce all over his cup corn! I was shocked and yet delighted all at the same time. Totally odd!

        Cup corn chilli, anyone?

10) Fried Mars Bar

mb
I am totally biased towards this combination. If you have not tried the fried Mars Bar, then my fellow man, you have not truly lived.

I must admit, I went "What?!" when I first heard of the combination. I was thinking who would want to deep fry a bar of chocolate? Won't it melt? But it turns out that the Mars Bar is dipped in batter before being fried (ohhhh...).

It's the perfect sinful indulgence. The chocolate is melted just right - literally melts in your mouth! The serving of ice-cream balances out the heat from the Mars Bar. This is one odd food delicacy that gets two thumbs up from me.

Of course, there are many other odd foods that I came across while searching online. For example:

  • French fries with chocolate syrup

  • Cheetos with mustard

  • Eggs with ketchup (or salsa depending on how it's cooked)

  • Sushi with tomato sauce

  • Potato chips in honey

So I have come to conclude that as long as there are hungry stomachs, food and bored, creative minds, there will always be out-of-this-world food combinations. One man's meat is another man's poison. So do keep an open mind, because who knows what gastronomical delights you could encounter?

In the meantime, if you know of any other odd food combinations (that are really delicious!), you could always let HOOKED know.

Till then, have fun trying out these combinations! Happy recess week! hooked
