Jack & Rai (Singapore)

Chatting with Jack and Rai for the first time is like having a good conversation with very old friends. Their openness and approach to music and life in general is one thatresonates positively, in a realistic sort of way, yet at the same time, quirky.

Coming from one of Singapore's most popular acoustic groups, EIC, this charismatic musician duo Jack & Rai have just emerged from a successful Late Nite @ Esplanade concert, a debut album entitled "In Stores Now."

With influences ranging from The Beatles to Bob Marley, Dave Matthews Band to U2, and also modern singer-songwriters such as Jason Mraz and John Mayer, their unique blend of acoustic pop-rock lays the foundation for their groove. Their lyrics stem from a combination of life experiences and philosophies that they believe in.

The two met when they were beginning their performing careers five years ago. Rai's empathy for his surroundings and environment complements Jack's more emotive approach to songwriting. This creates a heady fusion of raw emotion and keen observations on the human condition.

"I'm a happy camper," says Jack, 29, and it shows in his boyish charms and jovial demeanor. He writes like a story-teller, penning down views of an innocent by-stander.

Rai, 28, on the other hand, is the quiet one, which is reflected in his soulful voice; a gut-wrenching delivery that leaves the heart yearning for so much so that you can almost hear it break. His approach to writing is one of pure honesty - a window to his soul, slightly cracked yet still locks out the cold and keeps the warmth within.

When audiences go to a Jack & Rai concert, they feel like they are enjoying a private concert put on by friends. Such intimate settings allow for their stories to shine and every night is always a different show for them.

Jack & Rai are set to meet our Mosaic artists and you in person, and they are sure to channel the fun and camaraderie they bring to their performances, into the intimatesetting of In The House FM.

Conceptualised by three artists, Every Entranced Euphoria is a colourful celebration of life through the creation of art. Poh Ya See finds herself immersed in the euphoric sensation of cartoon, as she sees life in abstract animation. Jase Lim believes that life's destination is happiness but to reach there, one needs to first understand the values of life. Ina attains happiness by escaping reality, creating things from imagination and illusion through the use of colours inspired by daily life.

Writing Songs Through Drawings
By Chang Jinchao
(China)

Because our memory is fallible, we can more accurately document the past if we write about things as they happen. For this purpose, Jinchao "writes" through drawing. His work Writing Songs Through Drawings is an expression of his experience of a void, a nothingness unrelated to his surroundings and which cannot be filled.
