Suggestions for HOOKED
1) While the Edison Chen scandal might be a tad overhyped and will blow over in time, it might be interesting to have a theme on the strange fetishes of youths today, e.g. ranging from collecting limited edition sneakers, avant-garde fashion cult labels, and obsession with nip-tucks to erm, cam-whoring of all kinds.
Might be interesting to include a little survey on how many of us in NUS actually viewed the collection of pictures and their take on the controversy. A variation of this idea might be a "scandalized"/exposé theme, coupled with the most sensational gossip in town/university - things like student-teacher scandals and behind-the-door hall scandals. Basically, articles which reflect the (disturbing) social mores today.
2) A social-networking/techno-networking theme: something that reflects the advent of technology and pervasiveness of networking tools like Facebook, Friendster, STomp, blogging etc. Perhaps, score an interview with our blogging babes, e.g. Dawn Yang, coupled with Xiaxue, for a fiery exchange of views and electrifying chemistry to sizzle things up a little? Forget about Steven Lim and his politically correct answers!
3) A theme on the "ATAS" phenomenon, or the rise of rich, young tertiary kids on the block who embrace a lifestyle of fine dining, luxury fashion brands, fast cars and exclusive club memberships.
For more scribe-worthy news, ambush the personalities tucked away at the lush Bukit Timah Campus, what with the increase in mini-coopers scurrying around and occasional sightings of Ferraris parked along the road (the latter might belong to the lecturers though). I'm sure Kent Ridge has its fair share too!
4) I'm looking forward to a "foodie" special (instead of just a section)! Perhaps report on the best stalls in the various NUS canteens and other haunts in town, ranging from the value-for-money to the exorbitant fine-dining types, include a section on "family secret recipes", so readers can share and indulge in some great recipes!
In addition, HOOKED can add some work-out/fitness tips and sporting ideas to help us shed the pounds.

- HOOKED is a great e-zine that blends.
- I like the variety of issues that HOOKED endeavours to cover - reviews, campus spooks, fashion tips, etc. Kudos to the writers, editors and programmers who have made this possible!
- (a) The layout of the website could be improved - having a title page, where only the main articles of that particular issue are featured, with the other links as tabs. I think this would be a layout that would go easier on the eyes, especially since right now, there are many things jumping out of the page at you (dispersing attention).
- (b) More on-campus news like sports and issues that NUS students are concerned about - a page where students can have their "shout-out" to their friends/post mini-advertisements for events - this would make the e-zine more personalised and give a "homely-feeling" to readers, making it not "just another website".

HOOKED is a good place to release stress, and where I can read on anything under the sun without knowing what they are going to write.
I don't like its black background, which makes my eyes see double after reading an article. I would like to see some changes in the layout or theme. Or put in an online radio/music player - that will be cool!

HOOKED is a magazine with ups and downs. But I appreciate the research and brain juices that go into the making of HOOKED. I always look forward to receiving HOOKED in my email because I want to see what surprises I can get from the articles that are featured.
Although there are some articles that I am not interested in because it is not my taste, there is always at least one that I can read on comfortably. Some of my memorable HOOKED articles include the "Dirty Secrets", "Haunted Places at NUS", Valentine's Day issues throughout my year of study, the article featuring the coolest soccer hunks in Fifa World Cup 2006, the article featuring dressing style of NUS students and articles that featured good places to eat and shop.
There wasn't any article that I disliked thoroughly because if I don't take to it, it's only because it is not my area of interest and not the quality of the article. I also love the humour that some writers inject into the articles. HOOKED is a magazine of information and fun, so I hope that students do not slam HOOKED (something which I used to see some time ago). The fact that HOOKED has varied articles to suit the taste of every student's needs and wants is what makes me HOOKED to this e-magazine!

With the recent trends of online blogs like http://facehunter.blogspot.com or http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/, I would think featuring some of the better dressed campus mates would be fun! Certain issues can have quirky dressers too! This way, everyone can be part of the NUS online mag, as long as they dress well. Promotes the vibrancy of NUS or individuality of some of our school mates too! Now we have proof that we can't be touted as fashion nuts, as compared to SMU. You can call it fashspot or fash it (puns with flash it) or fashdent (fashion student) or toocoolforschool or some cool names.
Having guest writers would be fun too! Like 'pouncing' on NUS students and see if they're interested to write an article for the mag! Or be the editor for the above fashion column that I've mentioned. Or just pouncing on them to ask for their fashion tips - if you see someone with gorgeous hair or makeup, ask them to give some tips.
Interactive and engaging campus mates might encourage more readers to visit the mag.

HOOKED really hooks. I mean I can really get hooked on this e-zine. Whenever there is a new issue, I'd definitely skim through (although I'm in the midst of checking my NUSmail, I'd open HOOKED's updated e-zine first to see what the issue is about).
I really like the way things are presented as it is neat and easy to navigate. Plus, the issues brought up are new and unique, not cliched old stuff. Of course, the best thing is the chance to win freebies, which I hope I would! That will definitely boost my good impression of HOOKED!
I'd think that it'd be better if this e-zine allows an Aunt Agony column whereby people can voice their grievances. It'd be interesting if there is a Horoscope section for that particular month, or maybe Fashion scoop for that particular season. Just my petty suggestions.
Anyway, I think that HOOKED has been doing pretty well at giving us something to look forward to in the midst of boring, stressful school life - everything that HOOKED is not. Keep up the cool work!

HOOKED is absolutely fabulous! I have been reading every single issue since year 1. I like the freebies giveaway and the articles about NUS school life. I would love to see HOOKED feature more on campus fashion!

I love hooked! It adds colour to my otherwise plain and boring NUS email inbox. It's a break from whatever that I'm doing. I appreciate the effort and passion of the people putting hooked together. A lot of of people are still deleting hooked when they see it in their inbox, so I hope hooked will think of ways not to let that happen.

Cool site. Insight to various issues like the outdoors (NUS Rovers article), the issue regarding the CAP grading system (in a past HOOKED issue), and even more serious issues such as Singapore as a Biomedical Hub, all approached in a light-minded and reader-friendly manner. It provides an avenue for stress relief, as well as a sense of belonging and comraderie within the NUS community. Freebies, too!
What I'd love to see: Portal allowing more forum-like communication for NUS students, especially in terms of senior recommendations, advice, job opportunities, etc.
Maryam bte Rafi'ee
I love HOOKED! I'm simply hooked onto it. I'm simply just waiting for every issue to pop up in my email - can't wait to read it. It is a source of entertainment and relaxation for me. I love the He or She section the most. It just presents views from both gals and guys. Very interesting!
I think it will be great for HOOKED to have a section that helps people sell their stuff.
Koh Fei Fei
I think HOOKED is great. It is the one-stop that can provide all the information you need to survive and stand out in this world. It provides great tips to be outstanding in NUS without looking shag.
I would like to see more fashion and survival tips. It would be great if you could provide information on modules worth trying and experiences from seniors every semester.
Joanna Chang Guang Qi
I like the articles under the Lifestyle section, like He Says, She Says. I hope to see more of such articles, especially those on food reviews in future.
Fong Han Ying
Hooked is a candid e-mag and light on the mind. Nice.
Foo Shi Jie
I enjoy HOOKED, more so on the areas of discussion on current issues when it comes to trends, as well as fashion. I would love to see more information on areas of interests around NUS like Clementi, where we can hang out, since many of us, not only foreigners but locals as well, and freshmen especially, are not very familiar with this part of Singapore. It would be great too, if the magazine could include an Eating Page, whereby each issue focuses on a good place around the local area where we can visit, chill and hang out.
Thanks and keep up the good work!
Lim May Ping
I really liked the He says, She says section; witty and humorously written, the topic discussed every issue never fails to tickle.
Perhaps there could be more coverage on student activities, probably activities of clubs and societies, not forgetting student events. I'd like to know more about the current activities that fellow students are engaging in and what are the activities available in all corners of NUS, making it a vibrant and happening campus.
Cheng Hui Yun
I like the rather relaxed-laid-back tone! It makes for light reading in between mugging. Maybe articles on good chill-out and mugging spots within and near campus would be cool.
Chan Sheue Lian Shareen
I'd like to see a forum for us to pose advice too. I like how practical and interesting the solutions are to the questions and how they actually work like a charm.
Chia Shu Yi
You can do food reviews, since food is universally appealing anyway. If possible, offer vouchers or something for the restaurant that's being reviewed for that issue.
The design of the web-page has been the same for some time, you could consider revamping, and make it more cheery and youthful!
Chen Siew Jin
Interesting topics covered in every issue. I'd like to see more stuff on life on campus.

Interactive Media
I think Hooked is an electronic magazine that is truly relevant to the lives of undergrads as it is written by undergrads. It is able to attract our general attention. Well, the articles inside cover a huge range of topics from the serious to the fun. As it is relatively easy to use, readers can select their article of interest and find out more about it.
Hooked is almost perfect, however I would suggest the use of videos or podcasts posted on the web page. Interesting Videos/Podcasts are more visually appealing and would appeal to those who are lazy or tired to read. People can also be invited to post comments about the videos. With the popularity of videos, podcasts, catching up with young people, it will be great if we can tie this up with our newsletter.
Also, students can be encouraged to submit links and a short write up about their favourite blogs/websites on their favourite topics (food, fashion, automobile, witty thoughts, etc). This sharing of information and faves will be interesting.
Maybe a section can be included like a Dear Aunt Lydia (emotional problems) or Dear Professor/ Expert (career-related difficulties) for undergrads to seek guidance about their difficulties anonymously. Experts like counselors, seniors, lecturers can be roped in to give the best advice. Their peers may also face the same difficulties and look to the advice for guidance.
Lastly, I wish all the best to Hooked, your team has done a great job! Keep it up.
Lim Swan Lian Elin
I like the way Hooked is mass-mailed to the whole NUS population (might be irritating to some). For the next issue, maybe you can cover on spooky areas in NUS, in conjunction with the coming Halloween. You can also make it more interactive by including videos.
Lee Shiau Chui
Hooked website is very well-presented, and has a nice and pleasant-looking interface. Perhaps you guys could include a real-time chat-room, so that it will be more interactive?
Jason Ang
Well, I guess every HOOKED issue is really very exciting and never fails to bore me. Places as in where are the good foods, clubbing spots and what's happening around us are all featured in the various issues. Maybe we will like to see an online chat-room, where all of us can come in to relax.

More Freebies Please
I love the Freebies section! What I don't like is the use of your images from the internet. I'd like to see more of your own, local pictures. Other than that, it's pretty good the way it is.
Joyce Hong Chiew Wan
I like HOOKED's Freebies section, which is of course how I end up answering this question. Apart from that, I also like the (EtcEtcEtc) section on the Top 10 List, which includes interesting information surrounding NUS and is worth reading on. This has helped me in being more into NUS. I like the Gallery too, where there are a lot of photos I can browse through, since it is pictorial and not wordy.
Also, HOOKED is a very "themey" online magazine, where each issue comes with a different theme that is really relevent to the hot topic at the moment, for example, Green is the theme for this issue and it fits into this timing really well with the Ridge magazine, as well as all the Green projects coming in between.
However, the music section, for example in this issue on Kelly and Chen Wei Lian, may be too regional and only applicable to the Singapore context. Perhaps you could consider featuring more international singers, including those from Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the West, who are more famous and cater to more people.
For recommendations, maybe you can get more freebies coming in. As for last year's issues, I think I was able to get more freebies alert, and these will really appeal to people and get more readers.
Apart from that, you could also do with a new template design because this black template has been used for a long time, since I first read HOOKED. Students may be rather bored with this familiar page and will not be able to attract any more attention.
Hoe Wei Wen
I like visiting Hooked because of its integration of lifestyle, fashion, and NUS (fosters relationship between me, a student of NUS, and the magazine). I like the layout of the website, making the online magazine cool and easy to use. I hope to see more freebies!
Roy Tan Da Duan
I think it's quite a good read with interesting stuff as well! And of course I love the Freebies section.
Foo Xiao Xuan
Larger font size would be good. And more freebies and contests.
