Stress Reliever

It's entertaining and informative. Definitely a read during this stressful exam period to relax a little or two. Sections pertaining to technology such as IT or even cars will be interesting (especially to guys).

What I think of HOOKED, well, it rocks! As well as the team behind it, of course! Great job guys. I look forward to getting the HOOKED issue online. Really funny and interesting articles (albeit some cheesy ones too)! That gives us students a breather from the crazy day! I think it's a great starting point too, for budding writers.

I really loved one of your articles on the Daughtry showcase at St. James! I was there too, so I know exactly what you are talking about! I liked The Green Issue too. It was a great idea to interview the Karung Guni man! I've always wanted to know how the system works, but who to ask? Thanks for the information!

Best of all, I look forward to your cool freebies! Like this amazing one, since I'm a great fan of CLEO! As for what I'd like to see in the future, maybe feature articles on festivals in Singapore? Not the popular ones that everyone knows about but other interesting ones that are celebrated on a smaller scale? And of course, more freebies!

Diana Christian
I think HOOKED is interesting, full of juicy news and tips for entertainment when we are stressed up with loads of school work.

I would love to see more interesting news or history regarding campus stuff or anything to do with food. I would hope to see more contests coming out.

Love that Hooked covers stuff from entertainment to fashion to music to random crazy stuff about school, but writers should put more depth in some of the articles. Some articles were a bit superficial as some readers (like me) expected more.

The Something 2 Say Box is a good place for students to say whatever they want to say! Love it when students reveal their secrets. More articles like this please. Hooked is a good stress-reliever and most probably the only mass e-mail from school that I look forward to receiving!

What I'd love to see is a new look or layout for the site! The layout has been the same since I joined NUS! Give it a little more Bling! Better yet, put out a competition for a new layout design and tell the whole school about it. And more freebies.

I like the whole visual presentation - especially the yellow/black color combination.

I would like to see more articles on youth achievements, e.g. those who've won awards like the Student Excellence Awards, or those who've succeeded in areas outside school, e.g. starting up their own businesses.

I would also like to see more articles on lifestyle management, e.g. health/fitness, finances.

One thing I like about Hooked is that it is informative as well as fun to read. Most importantly, it really helps me kill time when I'm stuck in front of the computer doing boring assignments.

What I like about HOOKED is the humour injected into each article to bring interesting and sometimes serious issues across! It serves to brighten up our day after a tiring day of school. I would definitely love to see more articles and hopefully, more contests as well for the community to participate.

I pretty much like HOOKED but I have to admit that I only access it through the NUS mail! Thanks for that service. It's kind of like a short get-away from projects, tutorials, lecture notes and I really appreciate it.

I like articles featuring on school stuff and activities, although sometimes they are a bit lame. From what I recall, a few issues back, about the babes and hunks in NUS, some of them are really not babes. Okay, it just means that perhaps HOOKED can up the quality of students they interview for the article, and not just someone they catch along the corridor (like in the case I mentioned). Else, it's pretty good and neat. Way to go.

Room For Improvement

I hate it when the links don' t work and when photos of people were taken, especially about fashion, where you guys comment about people's dressing.

I love the school event coverage, especially the bashes, and also about special events, as well as things like planning and recommendations of places to go.

Chia Shu Yi
I like the wide range of topics featured in each issue, especially the feature on eating places which satisfies the foodie within me. I think the comments/reader's feedback structure and layout of HOOKED could be improved on.

Chow Sau Yee

HOOKED is rather entertaining and deals with topics close to us. It is quite good to see it in the inbox once in a while to remind us to ditch the books for a moment to check it out. However, the content still has much room for improvement. Maybe more write-ups on new and good restaurants or places to chill out can be featured.

Soh Ting Ting
I don't like the layout, probably because I hate to read small, bright prints out of black background, which really do hurt my eyes (despite the fact that the design is actually quite cool, if only I don't have to read from it).

Also, I don't like the fact that we need to click "next" to view the next half of an article. I would love to have the articles all viewable in one page.

Chim Wai Yee
Hooked has always been a staple read since my year 1. But perhaps it's time to change the layout, having been looking at the black background and yellow/red colour scheme for quite some time? Not that I have serious complaints but perhaps a whole new look would be really refreshing. Besides, black is rather dark and ominous. How about a brighter, more cheerful colour? (Since school is already depressing as it is)

Goh Chioa Wei
I like Hooked because there is a discernible theme in each issue yet it covers all bases from fashion to music to school events to investigative journalistic pieces. Quite a comprehensive newsletter, I couldn't ask for more!

However, sometimes I feel that the writing of the articles could be tighter. I can't cite specific articles but there are times that I felt like the reporter wasn't familiar with the content of the article but had to write the article because his/her editor said so, thereby resulting in not very insightful observations.

But most of all, the website could be improved - it's far too cluttered, perhaps a cleaner layout might make it more user-friendly.

Lim Pei Ling June
I'd like to see more articles on "current affairs" of NUS, like the S/U option issue. I'd also like to see more food recommendations and discounts for NUS students.

Tay Jang Shen Johnson
Honestly, when I joined NUS last year, I thought Hooked was one of the coolest and interesting campus magazine by NUS undergrads. I loved the articles in it, and how your articles (regardless of topic) would be able to fit into the theme for that publication.

However, around April 2006, I started to get bored with some of the articles. They were either too lengthy, or had no vibe in them. I think my least favourite section is He Says, She Says. The idea is good, but sometimes, I just saw no point in having to discuss whatever the topic was about. Nevertheless, it did provide some insights I've not known before.

In addition, I understand the need to have users register themselves before they comment. However, there has been a dearth of comments as a result of this. In fact, I felt that this was the unique thing about Hooked. Perhaps, instead of getting users to register (in order to comment), let anyone comment, but allow the publication team the right to remove any rude remarks.

For future issues, I would like mental illnesses and mental health to be featured. Other possible ideas are dance, musicals, as well as technology and the internet. For technology, you could have the basics like what people should look for in getting a laptop, a phone, or any other gadget that an undergrad would usually get; introduce the latest gadgets and also cool sites to check out online.

Love this issue on environment by the way.

Ng Yuan Xin
I like the articles on the current issues that NUS students face like the articles on CORS, S/Us and exams. Some articles are a tad difficult to digest though, so may I suggest articles that are for easy reading? And also more articles on fashion and beauty to cater for the girls and articles on gadgets and game reviews for the guys?

Write better articles; get better HOOKED writers!
