WanWan Rice Crackers
This rice cracker came in a packaging of 2 pieces of crackers per packet. They were absolutely delightful to munch on because of the crunchiness of the crackers. There was no way anyone could muffle the loud sound produced from biting the cracker.
The generous salt on the crackers made the crackers more flavorful but left an expected salty aftertaste in one’s mouth and caused a feeling of thirst. This hardly deterred us from eating the crackers and no one ever stopped at just one packet, that’s for sure.
A&W Root Beer Ice Cream Float
Now, why did A&W pack up and leave our shores, taking away with it its truly delectable root beer ice cream float? No one, and I repeat no one, makes root beer like A&W.
The scoop of vanilla ice cream on the root beer just made the drink all the more tantalizing. The velvety sweetness of the ice cream hits you first when you drink the float and immediately after that, you taste the carbonated root beer and it adds an interesting, somewhat spicy dimension to the sweetness and creaminess of the vanilla ice cream. I’ll take root beer ice cream float any day over coke.
Yakult
I’ve yet to meet someone who hates this milk solids drink. It’s sweet and surprisingly nutritious as well. There are different flavors of Yakult available, ranging from orange, apple to my all-time favourite, grape. It was always a race in my household to determine who got the grape-flavoured Yakult when we purchased the pack of 6 bottles of different-flavoured Yakult.
This was of course before the manufacturers smartened up and realized that quite a number of Yakult drinkers preferred to drink only their personal favorite flavor of Yakult and thereby started selling packs of 6 identical flavored bottles of Yakult.
My only point of contention is the ridiculously small sized bottle of the drink. On hindsight, drinking Yakult served as a preparatory course to drinking wine, I learnt the art of sipping instead of gulping my drink down.
Super Ring
Gotta love this stuff. Crunchy halos of intensely orange, tangy cheese powder which tastes as extreme as it looks. The cheaper alternative to the roller coaster (remember those potato-ey thin rings?), the purple glossy pack makes it easy to spot, even when buried underneath the whole myriad of its cheap cracker cousins.
Remember the days when we'd use to dig our tiny little fingers into each of the two remote corners of the packet to siphon off any remaining cheese powder there was, and of course, to end of the surreal experience by licking our fingers so cleanly it puts Colonel Sanders to shame.
Sadly enough some boys/men/wimps today would not be caught dead sauntering out of a mama shop with a Super Ring packet. I would know. I've been scapegoated one too many times.
Kodomo Toothpaste
I have to admit, this is a little queer but heck you can't even call this an acquired taste! You loved it at first brush, didn't ya?
With flavours like grape, strawberry and mixed fruit, after-recess teeth brushing became something to look forward to in primary one. Good enough to eat, I'd say!
Without further adieu, we shall sing the mandatory ritualistic song that goes with this treat. Sing along! This is the way we brush our teeth, brush our teeth, brush our teeth...HOOKED
