The Frontier
By Angeline Oei
Our scientists-to-be need some good food to spur their energy and boost their brain power. HOOKED checks out the stalls to give you our very own ratings and favorites.
1. Yong tau foo
The yong tau foo stall provides a good mixture and generous portion of fresh ingredients such as bean curd, lady’s fingers, fish balls, bittergourd. The soup is flavorful as well, and leaves a warm, satisfactory feeling in the stomach.
Food rating: 3.5/5
2. Clay pot chicken
Judging by its long queue, the clay pot stall is quite a popular stall at The Frontier. The clay pot chicken is appealing with the delectable freshness of vegetables and chicken. Unfortunately it didn’t quite make the cut for me as there was nothing exceptional or unique about the dish. It also lacked that special aroma associated with good clay pot dishes.
Food rating: 2.5/5
3. Waffle ice cream (Western food)
Nicely toasted, topped off with a delightful sweetness, the blueberry ice cream waffle from the Western stall, is by far my favorite dish at The Frontier. Who can resist such a refreshing treat in the hot, humid weather?
Food rating: 5/5
4. Drink and snack stall
It’s rare to find health products being thoughtfully produced and sold in school canteens, and I must say, I was really impressed by the wide variety of herbal teas sold at the drink and snack stall. The white fungus and almond flavors would be my top choices – the white fungus herbal tea has a light and soothing quality to it, and the almond herbal tea with its savory though slightly powdery and milky taste, is a must-try for almond lovers. For those less keen on strong herbal tastes, you can try the barley or peppermint honey flavors.
