Woah.. before you guys get all excited and hyped up, I was merely referring to the drink. For the uninitiated, "sex on the beach" is a cocktail made of vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry juice and orange juice. If you want to play it safe, there's an alternative for you to choose from - "safe sex on the beach", which simply refers to a similar cocktail without alcohol.
In order to stand out from the rest, it seems that it is also worth racking the brain to come out with something out of the ordinary for the name of a particular dish or drink. But...What's up with these quirky names on the menu? It probably also poses a problem for us, as consumers: how in the world are we going to order those without giving additional wrong ideas? For one who just wants the drink e.g "sex on the beach", without extra 'special' side dishes, it is best not to order it with a wink while leaning towards the bartender.
Now, how about a delicious G-spot or Spike "D" cup? Imagine it all covered with chocolate, oh yums! If you'd been to the Big O Café & Restaurant, these names would have ring a bell. Located at Wheelock Place, this sister restaurant of NYDC has a new array of your favourite cakes. "The G-spot" is the "ultimate chocolate fudge cake" best served warm and "Spike 'D' Cup" is, as you might have guessed, a durian cake "made with the best fresh durians and topped with chocolate fudge". Just a reminder, do not stick your eyes on the respective body parts as you make your orders.
Who'd have thought cakes would have ratings too? In view of Valentine's Day in a week's time, Bakerzin came out with a V-Day cake collection which include 3 different ratings - NC16, M18 and R21. M18 is a dark chocolate mousse cake with brandied cherries as the filling. NC16, created for sweet teen romances, is a light sponge cake decorated with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.
 
You probably feel more curious what's in a R21 cake that makes it deserve such a title. A whole chocolate bomb sits in the middle of the cake, which is a flourless chocolate cake with caramelised bananas and topped with raspberries. What add on to the raunchiness are the two pieces of Kamasutra chocolates printed with images of couples doing you-know-what. After all, Kamasutra is an ancient Sanskrit literature about love and sex. However, it is strongly discouraged to appear too excited when you place your orders.
While it is debatable whether to have such names censored or not, it is probably more worth the while to put effort in appreciating and savouring the abovementioned cakes and drinks, eh? HOOKED
